MS Islamic Studies
Specialization Hadith Sciences (Takhassus Fi Uloom il Hadith)
Program Overview
The Master of Science in Islamic Studies (Specialization in Hadith), offered under the auspices of AGU, is a rigorous academic program designed to cultivate advanced expertise in the sciences of Hadith. It provides students with both classical and contemporary tools to engage critically and constructively with the Prophetic traditions.
In today’s era—marked by ideological challenges, misinformation, and growing skepticism—the program plays a vital role in preserving the authenticity of Hadith and reviving its central place in Islamic thought. Through a balanced integration of traditional scholarship and modern academic methodologies, students gain the capacity to address contemporary issues, respond to misconceptions, and represent the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) with depth and clarity.
The program is open to students from diverse academic backgrounds, including those with traditional Islamic education (Dars-e-Nizami). It emphasizes scholarly rigor, critical thinking and research excellence, while fostering deep spiritual and intellectual engagement with the Hadith literature.
Program Objective
The primary objectives of the MS IS (Specialization in Hadith) program are:
- To equip students with in-depth knowledge of the sciences of Hadith, including the analysis of chains of narration (isnād) and textual content (matn).
- To develop students’ ability to identify, evaluate, and classify Hadiths as authentic, weak, or fabricated, thereby protecting the Muslim community from misinterpretation and false attributions.
- To foster a profound appreciation for the role of Hadith in Islamic scholarship and nurture love for the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
- To train students to respond to contemporary objections and challenges through sound academic research and rational defense of Hadith traditions.
- To enable students to undertake scholarly research through a 6-credit-hour thesis that addresses relevant issues in Hadith sciences and contributes to the body of authentic Islamic knowledge.
By the end of the program, graduates will be capable of engaging in academic and community discourse with authority and insight, serving as scholars and ambassadors of Prophetic knowledge in the modern world.
